Step 1
Do you receive a benefit because you have a disability or illness that makes it hard for you to get around? You can use it to pay for a vehicle from a charity called Motability!
Step 2
Let’s check you are eligible!
Have you received the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for 12 months or more?
Have you received the enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for 12 months or more
Have you received the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement for 12 months or more
Remember, If you don’t drive, you can still get a Motability vehicle and choose someone else to drive it.
You can choose up to 2 people to drive on your behalf.
Step 3
How do I pay?
Your benefit will go directly to Motability each month to pay for your lease. You get to choose how much of your benefit will go towards your vehicle. You’ll probably need to make a payment upfront if you choose a more expensive vehicle.
Step 4
Who pays for my tax, insurance etc?
It’s all included, so your payment covers the vehicle and also insurance, including tyre and windscreen replacement cover, breakdown cover and Vehicle tax.
Step 5
How do I choose a car?
That’s easy, just bring evidence that you’re eligible for the scheme.
You’ll need to show us your ID (such as a driving licence or passport) and your certificate of entitlement from the Department of Work and Pensions.
Step 6
Do I have to visit the showroom?
If visiting the showroom is a problem, don’t worry, one of our team will visit you. We can then have a chat to help find a vehicle that suits you best. Simply let us know if you think your vehicle needs to be adapted or if you use a wheelchair or mobility aid, if you're visiting, you could always bring it with you to make sure it fits in your next car.
Step 7
Ordering the vehicle
This is the exciting part, simply show:
Your Certificate of Entitlement from the Department of Work and Pensions
Form of identification, such as a Passport or Driving Licence
Proof of address, such as a council tax bill or bank statement from the last 6
About 2 weeks after ordering your car you’ll get a confirmation letter in the post. Keep it safe - it contains your Personal Identification Number (PIN). You’ll need this when you collect your vehicle.
Step 8
It’s all been so easy, now it’s time to collect!
You’ll sign your lease agreement at the dealership, by entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN)
If you need us to deliver the vehicle, we can, alternatively you can collect the car yourself, and enjoy a coffee with us!
